SHOP NOWWatchmaking has existed for over two centuries, and the Swiss have proven to be experts in this field. Girard Perregaux is one of the oldest brands that still strive for innovations and breakthroughs. The company recently collaborated with the Aston Martin F1 to release a few contemporary luxury watches as a testament to their ingenuity. While Girard Perregaux may not be a high-profile brand like Rolex, Patek, and other Swiss watchmakers, the company has a long history and legacy that most people don’t know. If you want to invest in a high-quality timepiece, Atlanta Luxury Watches has a vast catalog guaranteed to meet your needs. Let’s look at this unique brand’s story and popular models.
Like most popular watch brands, the roots can be traced back to the 18th century. In 1791, Jean-Francois Bautte signed his first luxury watches in Geneva, which allowed the company to manufacture watches in-house, from engineering to hand-polishing each component. However, the company was acquired by Girard Perregaux in 1906, which is how we know it today.
The original Girard Perregaux got its name from Constant Girard, the founder, in 1852. It was until his marriage to Marie Perregaux in 1956 that the brand was changed to Girard Perregaux. Over the years, the brand has produced several patents and unveiled masterpieces that have influenced the industry.
In the late ‘80s, Girard Perregaux became part of the Swiss Sowind Group, a French Luxury Corporation subsidiary known as the Kering Group. This change of ownership has allowed the Swiss watchmaker to grow and build traction in the high-end watch market.
As mentioned, Girard Perregaux has created masterpieces that have inspired the watchmaking space. Their elaborate complications are made in-house, including the legendary Tourbillon models. The La-Chaux-de-Fonds facilities have been the birthplace of many quality timepieces that have revolutionized the GP watch family. Here are some of the popular watches from Girard Perregaux offered at our watch store.
Grand Perregaux is known for this watch. The Tourbillon with three gold bridges is not only the flagship model but holds the brand’s legacy and core values. Three gold bridges in the design of parallel arrows are a unique design that has brought fame and honor to the brand. In 1889, with three gold bridges, the Girard Perregaux Tourbillon was awarded the gold prize at Universal Exposition, Paris.
As suggested by the name, this unique line was inspired by the design aesthetics of the ‘60s. Some designs include an elegant three-hand watch and the "Fleming-Watch," which incorporates a moon phase and calendar show. The watch was later updated in 2012, establishing the 42 mm GP watches as a new grand classic.
Launched in 1975, this one-of-a-kind watch was associated with Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Phillippe’s Nautilus, which existed within the same period. These three models feature the same integrated bracelet and octagonal bezel. Besides being less popular than the other two, it has gained considerable support as one of the most sought-after timepieces.
